My 76 year old mother was just at this crap hospital. I'm not gonna get into detail about everything. Do not use this hospital. I beg you. The nurses are not professional and personally I think the doctors should not be practicing. There where so many things about why I feel this way. But I'm infuriated and I already reached out to a lawyer. That's how bad it is

BEWARE! My mother is currently admitted and is getting absolutely unacceptable care. If your family or friends are not in the ICU and having delirium and are at risk of falling DO NOT go here. They do not listen to you or properly document incidents that occur. My mother had issues of climbing out of bed during the middle of the night then they refused to put a 1 on 1 with her or allow my father to stay over. They only changed their attitude once we were RIGHT and she fell out of bed which is extremely dangerous. In addition to this they forgot to put her medicine patch on TWICE after getting scans. Doctors who examined her were confused where it was it, this is a critical medication that they missed and allowed her not to have for 12+ hours. We have been working with patient services and nothing is changing. The only part of the hospital that world class is the ICU. I'll say the manager on the floor has stayed in close contact with us to ensure that after the third scan that her medicine is put back on correctly (which still should be standard care) and one of the day nurses Ahmed did all he was able to do for us. Only other highlight was the day nurse Jessica on the 8th floor but the night nurses were not equipped support with someone like my mother and put that on my father who stayed over and wasn't even supposed to be there (they made an exception). Wild to me that I have to continue to escalate to just get standard care...

I had a really traumatizing experience here. I was in and out of urgent care with malnutrition due to not being able to eat, and the PA I was seeing told me to go to the ER if it got bad again. I was basically starving, kept having fainting spells, and just wanted to have some tests run. I was denied certain care at first until my husband showed up and demanded the tests be run. The doctor’s name was Samuel Ayala. He diagnosed me with “hunger,” yelled at me, and refused to give me his name, and when I asked for a supervisor, he said he was going to have security remove me. I still didn’t know his name at this point, hadn’t acted out or raised my voice, and was being denied discharge papers. I had to get a patient advocate, and by this point I was in a full blown panic attack. We recorded some of this, and they tried to tell us that it’s illegal to film inside the hospital. Just so everyone knows, it’s not—it’s just against hospital policy. I never got the chance to go through my symptoms with Samuel Ayala because he was yelling at me and speaking over me. I have already experienced a lot of medical trauma so this was a really traumatizing experience for me, and I am hesitant to go to this hospital or any other hospital again. I opened up a complaint against him, and the hospital did nothing. If he had run the proper tests on me, he would have found that I have a heart condition. Instead, I was bounced around to different doctors for months, and I got so sick that I lost my job, a job that I really loved. I’ve had good experiences at this hospital too, but I advise women specifically to avoid this specific doctor like the plague, and I can’t in good conscience say that the hospital handled this situation correctly. I went there already extremely scared for my health and life, and left there 10x sicker due to crying and having a panic attack. I don’t know what I did to deserve this treatment. I feel that this doctor thought that I was of a certain class that didn’t deserve his respect, and he’s a misogynist. Women in particular aren’t safe with Samuel Ayala.

First, care wise, they are either understaffed, nonchalant, uncoordinated, or just not concerned. My significant other was in patient following surgery; and the care on the floor was worse than any I have had or seen. Call buttons are not responded to for 10, 15 minutes. The noise outside the door (which never closed) is so bad that no one could sleep. The staff is all very lovely, but there’s not enough of them to go round. The room was so crammed and uncomfortable and just not nice. The bathroom could have been way cleaner. Downstairs, it’s worse than the security line at Newark airport. An HOUR to get thru as a visitor. Absolutely ridiculous process. They don’t give you a pass for the number of days your family will be there, or even for multiple days at all. There’s no point to security. The surgical process was impressive, on time, and professional. The rest was lackluster and didn’t feel good. I personally would avoid this hospital for any in patient stays because of what I experienced. I was in patient up the street at THE HSS and it was like the Ritz. I absolutely adored them. They treated me with such concern and care. I had a nutritionist assigned to me from the first night. I was given huge menu options. Every nurse was amazing. It was sparkling clean and so quiet. It’s hard for me to believe that NYPH can be under par, but it is.

Update: My sister was hit by a car this past Friday and is pretty banged up. Her head hit the ground so hard it cracked her bicycle helmet! The staff at this place didn't even have the common courtesy do a full body CT scan to check for internal injuries! They just scanned her head and one foot. They were supposed to keep her overnight for observation. She was discharged and sent home after a few hours in the ER. Today, she discovered that her other foot is infected, the one that wasn't scanned. THIS IS WHY YOU CONDUCT A FULL BODY SCAN FOR COLLISION VICTIMS! You don't tell them that they have no internal injuries if you haven't properly checked for any! Crazy thing is that she requested that the ambulance not take her here. Please be careful if you need to go here. Read my prior review below. For further information. This place is notorious for changing the rules as they go along. Not to mention shady practices by its staff and the constant flow of misinformation. This is especially important if you are a person of color - and I speak from experience. Please be vigilant if you are admitted here, and if by the grace of God you are allowed to have a visitor with you, make sure that they stay alert as well. Ask questions! Take the names of anyone who comes into contact with you or a loved one. Pay attention to your surroundings, and document everything!!!!
